Timm Getts first found out about the …destination Transformation Challenge back in the fall of 2015 after hearing about it from staff members who motivated him to truly go after it.
Timm, who’s done transformation challenges in the past without much support, decided to give it a shot. What really motivated him this time around was writing his goals and rewards down in a journal. Any time Timm started to feel down or doubt his progress, he’d go back to his journal and read over his goals which helped fire him back up again.
Timm started and completed Transformation Challenge 1 with high motivation and a great support team. “We were all doing this together, it just wasn’t by ourselves. We were watching each other transform right there, each week – day in and day out,” Timm says.
But the hardest part for Timm came about four weeks ago when his weight hit a plateau. Everything he tried didn’t seem to be working. “No matter what I did, no matter how much cardio, no matter how much food, how much bootcamp, how much weights I was lifting… I was doing everything I was supposed to do and it really hit me,” Timm says.
After checking the …destination Facebook page and reading the advice from personal trainers to stay away from the scale, Timm decided he was done weighing himself.
Timm made it his mission to complete the rest of the challenge without knowing his weight. “When TJ would weigh me, I would say ‘I don’t want to know.’ Let’s just keep going,” Timm says.
Once he stopped weighing himself, Timm felt the pressure off his back and was able to really start going after what he set out to do rather than focus on the scale.
In the beginning, Timm’s goal was to simply get healthy. “I was borderline diabetic, I had high blood pressure, and I had high cholesterol,” Timm says. “My doctor said, ‘You better pull your head out and get this squared away because I’m about to stick you on a bunch of medicine.’ And I didn’t want to do that.”
Friends and family even told Timm to start considering gastric bypass surgery. That’s when he decided he was going to hit the gym and get healthy the right way.
During the first Transformation Challenge, Timm was regularly going to the doctor and monitoring his blood work. His doctor told him to stick with it and keep going and, by the end of the first challenge, Timm’s progress left his doctor amazed.
Timm, who was able to completely go off his cholesterol and blood pressure medicine, decided that he wasn’t going to give up.
“Now that I see the results after six months of doing these two challenges, I’m like… man I don’t want to quit,” Timm says.
Motivated by the progress he’s seeing with muscle gain and definition, Timm realized that this challenge is now a new lifestyle for him. One of the goals that Timm shares is to be able to walk his daughters down the aisle and be there to see his grandkids.
“This is why I did it, this is where I’m at, but I’m not done,” Timm says. “I see the two winners from the first challenge and I see the progress they’ve made, and that just motivates me even more. So I’m going to keep after it, and I’m going to finish the year out doing all the challenges. And I’m doing it for me and for my family.”
